Found Your New Favorite Band! — The Happy Fits Bring Their Tour to Austin

Songs to Listen To:
“Cruel Power”, “So Alright, Cool, Whatever”, “Too Late”, “Everything You Do”

I’m already calling it — The Happy Fits are going to blow up within the next year. Now is the best time to hop on the bandwagon and show all of your friends that you listen to the best music ahead of the trend (or that you read The Barricade Collective!)

Unapologetically Fun!

The lead singer of The Happy Fits, Calvin Langman, performs in one of the most unique manners I’ve ever seen: jumping around with a cello strapped to his chest. You heard me right: A CELLO!

I’m not even going into the usual banter of “why does a rock band have a cello” because honestly the innovation we’ve seen lately with genre bending and bands adding their own unique twists to the normal sounds we’ve heard within the rock genre for decades is one of my favorite things about recent artists’ music.

But I was so genuinely awestruck seeing the band come on stage and immediately start jumping around with these heavy instruments. I was also shocked to see how much the crowd was reciprocating. Usually the barricade is the most energetic place in a show, since they’re the closest ones feeding off of the energy. This crowd was electric from front to back, start to finish of the show. There was even someone in the crowd making and handing out balloon animals!

Fan Connection to the Max!

The Happy Fits’ fans are absolutely 1000% invested and you can tell they give every ounce that the band gives them right back each and every show. From the very first song, the fans were bouncing around and screaming every single word right alongside the band. The energy was so inviting. Even as someone who listens casually, I felt right at home and welcome to enjoy the show at the same energy as the biggest fan in the crowd.

I was shocked at the level of crowd engagement, especially the preplanned section. They posted on their instagram back in October for fans to submit short voice recordings along with the show they were attending. Right before playing the song Lovesick, they played one of the submitted voicemails for the crowd to hear. It was such a sweet way to have some controlled fan participation. I can imagine that person will remember that moment forever.

There was also a really cute section where they asked who thought they were the couple who had been together the longest in the crowd. There were shouts of a few months, years, and then one couple shouted that they had been together for 25 years. Calvin then asked if anyone could beat that. Another couple in the back shouts out that they had been together for 30 years. The crowd was in awe of the couple for a moment, reaching to grab their significant other if they came with one. It was such a sweet moment to witness, especially seeing how genuine Calvin and the band were in talking with/about the couple and how invested they are with the fans in general.

Believe the Hype — They’re IT!

If you never take any of my advice ever again, please make sure to take this one. Listen to The Happy Fits! Go see a show! It will be one of the most fun and youthful experiences you have this year!
